Garden Tiger Moth & Dock original art by Molly Ellis the wildfelter.
A dramatic piece celebrating the mundane and overlooked aspects of our beautiful wild Ireland, moths & weeds! The dock leaf is detailed in free motion embroidery and on it rests a stunner of a garden tiger moth. The moths feed on dock and one cannot exist without it.
As a child one would always just “know” that dock leaves cured all that ailed in the way of nettle stings and of course ( especially for me!) finding hairy molly caterpillars or wooly bears were just the treat. I adore this with my own children and lucky since rewilding have been able to do this.
This work is pure celebration of colour, biodiversity and childhood simplicity.
As with all my originals prints are available and the right to reproduce the image on other lines remains with me the artist.
One of the biodiversity series focusing on the link between our stunning native species and the forgotten weeds that are essential to their survival. I wanted to start these pieces to educate myself and share my love of nature. It inspired me to rewild my own garden and study the species that arrive.
